Christian Ludwig Attersee's brashly colorful, narrative, and invariably surprising compositions have held a unique place in contemporary art for decades. The Austrian artist's figurative works, often phantasmagorical and suffused with bizarre, sometimes ribald verbal and visual wit - and above all with irony - evoke a sensuous, ecstatic, exuberant world that oscillates between expressionist invention and a depiction of observed reality. Attersee is a man of diverse gifts, being also active as a musician, poet, stage designer, and film-maker.
