13 September 2008 – 11 January 2009 CHRISTIAN JANKOWSKIIn his videos, Christian Jankowski elevates television preachers, fortune tellers, magicians, and psychiatrists to the actual protagonists who, with a good deal of involuntary comedy, make statements about artistic processes. The artistdelves into current entertainment and life-advice shows to investigate media entertainment and the role of the artist in our society. In the solo exhibition in the Kunstmuseum, which is the first extensive presentation of his work in German- speaking countries in recent years, Jankowsi presents his newest works. At the center is his new film Old Planet, specially produced for Stuttgart: a science-fiction work in which he tests the classical film genre, as he does in other new works. Born in 1968, Christian Jankowski lives and works in New York, Berlin, and Stuttgart; he holds a professorship for sculpture at the Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste (State Academy of Fine Arts) in Stuttgart.
