Adolescents

For this theme-based exhibition, the Musée de l’Elysée has invited a number of contemporary artists to show work focusing on adolescence, that transitional phase between childhood and becoming an adult which is so often a time of conflict. In his recent work entitled The Critical Age, the Swiss photographer Nicolas Savary evokes the feelings of isolation experienced in a school environment. In a diametrically opposed approach, the Dutch artist Raimond Wouda set up his camera, concealed from the pupils, in the busiest parts of a school. In doing so, he shows their need to rally around strongly distinctive signs of identity.

Description of the Museum

The Elysée houeses a unique collection of pictures by Gabriel Lippmann and a representative collection of important works (among other artists are Francis Frith, Robert Capa, John Philips, and Mario Giacomelli).
