INSTITUTIONAL AND POETIC VIOLENCE

Poetic is the violence of artists who appropriate and activate in order to derail the signs and situations in which society’s will to institutionalize power relations becomes manifest and thus accessible for an artist. Anne-Lise Coste re-writes in a virtually unending process the words and sentences that are pre-fabricated for the expression of even the most intimate concerns; Tatjana Doll paints public signs used to exercise control in the guise of public utilities; Erik van Lieshout produces videos that show him inserting himself into diverse situations of conflict which are thus brought to reveal themselves.
