WALTERCIO CALDAS

Waltercio Caldas (Rio de Janeiro, 1946) works in the diffuse and expanded field of contemporary sculpture, or, to be more precise, he works with space. Not with the object, or with the object as part of a set of spatial relations, but with space itself, and with all of its potential to define his experience.

This artist has been very active since the 1970s, in the wake of high-quality Brazilian cultural production, which gave rise to a splendorous 20th century in the fields of architecture, music, literature and the visual arts. Waltercio Caldas took part in a moment of artistic effervescence in which he has never ceased to operate, with a solid career and an intense activity in the fields of sculpture, installation, drawing and artist’s books, with an excellence which has been proven in each of the exhibitions in which he has taken part.
