BRIGITTE KOWANZ

Upper Belvedere

Brigitte Kowanz, whose work was already on display at the Venice Biennial in 1984, is particularly known for her light installations. Her creations revolve around the subject of light in the context of time, space, and information. The artist transforms the way we perceive the world around us into language, numerical series, and other ciphers and questions it at the same time. The transmitted messages, which are not immediately decipherable to the spectator, create a new dimension by changing our view of reality in a subtle fashion. The artist casts new light on seemingly familiar situations in the true sense of the word.
For the Belvedere, Brigitte Kowanz is planning an intervention in the Marble Hall.
