17 February 2007 – 15 April 2007 Martine Franck - From Day to DayMartine Franck, born in Antwerp/Belgium, is regarded as one of the best photographers of our time. Franck’s photographic oeuvre is characterised by honesty, sincerity and respect for the people and subjects she depicts. It encompasses portraits, humanitarian reports and landscape shots and amongst them also snapshots, in the Cartier-Bresson tradition, with an enigmatic humour. In contrast to many of her Magnum colleagues Franck, who from 1970 on was married to the “photographer of the century” Henri Cartier-Bresson, does not direct her gaze towards the spectacular events of our time. She is interested in silent locations and subjects; undiscovered places and—one of the photographer’s great passions—the world of the stage. The attentive, sensitive look behind the scenes and surfaces and a sure sense of composition give her images a typical quiet but insistent presence.
