Ansel Adams - Classic Images

an exhibition in cooperation with the Ansel Adams Trust und Anne Adams Helms

The US American Ansel Adams (1902-1984) is regarded as one of the most important photographers of all time. With his grandiose images of nature and landscape he has had an impact on our picture of the American West right up to the present and influenced a whole generation of photographers. Adams, a member of the "f/64" group of artists (named after the aperture 1/64), is regarded as a master of the large format camera and achieved images that were in focus almost to infinity. Perfect composition and lighting and an immense range of contrast in black and white are characteristic for his pictures. Adams shows nature as a suggestive power, of beauty and elegance.
The exhibition at WestLicht brings a set of 75 black and white images (Collection Anne Adams Helms) to Vienna. They were made by Adams in the last decade of his life and selected by him from his entire oeuvre. It includes the best know of his motifs - close ups of nature, architectural studies, portraits and above all the unique images of North American landscapes which brought him international fame.
