22 June 2007 – 7 October 2007 Sigmar PolkeSigmar Polke, born in 1941 in Oels/Lower Silesia, moved to West Germany at the age of 12. He formulated a completely independent pictorial language which, in playing with contradictions and cliché images, leads to humorous commentaries and puzzle pictures revealing a humanist and culturally critical ethos. Polke became known as a co-founder of Capitalist Realism, an art movement that, like Pop Art, referred on the one hand to everyday life and, on the other, wished to be understood as an ironic variation of Socialist Realism.AddressMUMOK Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig WienMuseumsQuartier Museumsplatz 1 1070 Wien phone +43 1 525 00 http://www.mumok.at Opening HoursDaily 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Thursday till 9 p.m..Description of the MuseumThe collection consists in classical modernism (Kandinsky, Klee, Magritte...)New building opened 2001; architects: Ortner & Ortner |
