>TAL R: HOUSE OF PRINCE<

Tal Rosenzweig Tekinoktay, known by the pseudonym of TAL R, has borrowed from music,
comic aesthetics, television or old videogame graphics and worked this into his oeuvre. That is
the artist’s way of simplifying and abstracting the imagery around him into pictograms and
encrypted symbols, geometric structures and childlike naive paintings. Tal R collects, collages
and playfully blends different styles and contexts into an individualised, complex imagery that
has earned him international renown. From its holdings the Essl Museum shows both very
recent works and the “House of Prince” cycle, a series of almost 200 small-format, vibrantly
coloured oil paintings, on which Tal R spent several years. Densely hung, they give visual
expression to the immense wealth of ideas and the diversity inherent in Tal R’s artistic
imagery.
