4 July 2007 – 21 October 2007 Archive of the Jewish CommunityThe IKG Vienna archive covers a period of 300 years and is the only known complete archive from the beginning of the Jewish community to the post-war period. It was officially founded in 1816, but even before this time there were documentary records of the Jewish community in Vienna, as illustrated by the references torecords of patents and decrees from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The archive was professionally organised during the nineteenth century. It documents the structure of the community and its religious, educational, scientific, cultural and charity institutions and also provides information about office holders and private individuals, reflecting the vibrant life of a large and diverse Jewish community in a major Central European city. Opening HoursSunday-Friday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Thursday till 8 p.m., closed on Saturday.Description of the Museum |
