Sophie Taeuber-Arp: Designer, Architect, Dancer

Sophie Taeuber is one of Switzerland’s most important artists. This exhibition focusses on
Sophie Taeuber’s less well-known design and architectural oeuvre and shows her
pioneering applied art work. This concentration of an extensive range of work provides a
view of the surprisingly different artistic partnerships that Sophie Taeuber cultivated in
highly diverse fields. The works, which always occupy the centre point, include the original
figures of the puppet play König Hirsch and are surrounded by individual objects and
designs as well as examples of reference objects from the artist’s immediate design
environment.

Description of the Museum

As the home of the applied arts collection of the Zürich Museum of Design since 1968, Museum Bellerive has made an international name for itself as the leading Swiss museum of applied art - both in unique objects and limited series.

The Collection’s centres of emphasis include Art Nouveau works comprising all materials, as well as the department of textiles, art marionettes and modern ceramics.
