22 June 2007 – 7 October 2007 Jugendstil - L'air d'un tempsJugendstil has moved and inspired many generations of designers. The world of forms ofturn-of-the-century art is today to be found once again in the disciplines of design, architecture and art, and the applied arts collection of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich owns many of the most precious pieces of this period. The goal of the collection of applied art that was founded in 1875 has always been to present masterpieces of good taste to the public. Thus the exhibition includes acquisitions from the famous companies Bing & Co or La Maison Moderne along with Dutch and English groups of works that were bought in their places of origin, as well as pieces by Louis Comfort Tiffany, Emile Gallé, Peter Behrens, Charles Robert Ashbee, Henry van de Velde or Frida Hansen. The exhibition shows highlights and key works that convey a trend which was and still is, quite literally, "in the air". Opening HoursTuesday-Sunday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Thursday - 8 p.m., closed on Monday.Description of the MuseumAs the home of the applied arts collection of the Zürich Museum of Design since 1968, Museum Bellerive has made an international name for itself as the leading Swiss museum of applied art - both in unique objects and limited series. The Collection’s centres of emphasis include Art Nouveau works comprising all materials, as well as the department of textiles, art marionettes and modern ceramics. |
