1 September 2007 – 18 November 2007 NEOREALISMO - Italy's New ImageThe concept of ”Neorealismo” is familiar from films, and we tend to associate it with directors such as Roberto Rossellini ("Roma città aperta"), Luchino Visconti ("La terra trema") and Vittorio de Sica ("Ladri di biciclette"), who strongly influenced the history of the cinema of the 1950s and 60s in Italy and the whole of Europe. We also know it from literature and associate it with authors such as Italo Calvino ("Il in Italy and the whole of Europe sentiero dei nidi di ragno", "Ultimo viene il corvo"), Elio Vittorini ("Uomini e no") and Beppe Fenoglio ("Il partigiano Johnny"). This new, direct and realistic image of Italy was then also in evidence in photography, at first as a protest against fascism and later as an expression of the transition to a modern Italy. These photographs have broken away from the Italian myth, from Bella Italia, and present a realistic, frugal, sometimes tough Italy - which nevertheless seems to abound with life - in documentary pictures. The exhibition is the first comprehensive show of Italy's neo-realistic photography. The exhibition will be accompanied by a book.AddressFotomuseum WinterthurGrüzenstrasse 44 8400 Winterthur phone +41 52 233 60 86 http://www.fotomuseum.ch Opening HoursTuesday-Sunday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesday - 8 p.m., closed on Monday.Description of the MuseumThe Fotomuseum Winterthur is building up a mainly contemporanean collection. |
