Collection - Part 2

This exhibition connects recent purchases with older works in the collection of the migros museum für gegenwartskunst. In the museum’s history of purchasing it is not only the presentation of the work that is important, but also the idea and the processes emanating from it. From this developed a fundamental concern with societal issues as well as a sense of social responsibility, reflecting the spirit initiated by the Migros founder, Gottlieb Duttweiler. Thanks to a progressive purchasing policy during the 1990s the collection possesses numerous important works by Swiss and international artists. The museum’s main concern is with contemporary art production and its integration with an open-minded public in a living context.
