25 August 2007 – 21 October 2007 Olaf BreuningThe works of Olaf Breuning (born 1970, lives and works in New York), one of the most important exponents of the Swiss art scene, present a fantasy image world, nourished heavily by a flood of everyday images, amongst which can be numbered those from the cinema, advertisements, fashion magazines and music videos. Breuning, however, usually conveys these image quotations in his videos, sculptures and tableau-like photographs, as uncanny portraits or group photographs which, in their perfection, acquire cracks where the bizarre and monstrous surface and soon appear in a cliché ridden simulation of a mystical world, in which ghosts and mythical creatures roam. However, the de-mythologisation and crossover of these stereotypical glamorous images and topoi lead at the same time to the creation of a new “hyper realistic mythologisation”. In his works Breuning questions the validity and effect of contemporary image worlds, and responds with their deconstruction, which takes effect even in his own works.Addressmigros museum ZürichLimmatstrasse 270 8005 Zürich phone +41 44 277 20 50 http://www.migrosmuseum.ch Opening HoursTuesday-Friday 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. ; Thursday - 8 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; closed on Monday.Description of the Museum |
