20 January 2008 – 18 March 2008 HOW TO COOK A WOLF - BERNADETTE CORPORATIONSince 1994 Bernadette Corporation operates as an anonymous, international group of artists. They research strategies of cultural resistance and of subversive manipulations with adapted forms and methods of the entertainment industry by using all these forms for their own experimental, artistic reasons.Founded in 1993 in a New York nightclub, Bernadette Corporation began to organise fictional social events by, for example, holding illegal art-carneval-events in Soho’s parking lots in New York. Further activities and productions include the New York (underground) fashion label BC Fashion which reached cult status towards the end of the 1990s and was followed by a subsequent flood of similar activites. They also include the magazine Made in USA, launched in 1999, the collectively written novel Reena Spaulings (Semiotexte, 2005) and many videos in which among other things celebrities such as Sylvère Lotringer and Chloe Sevigny appear. Numerous exhibitions in the USA and Europe followed, amongst others at Gavin’s Brown’s enterprise, New York (2002); Yvon Lambert, Paris (2004); Whitechapel Gallery, London (2004); Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2005); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2005), Kunstverein in Hamburg (2006). Bernadette Corporations’ intervening projects depict a precisely coordinated critique of globalised culture in which identity is contructed through consumation and branding.
