From Dresden to Bad Muskau

Urban and yet a cultural landscape; park landscapes that embrace an entire town. The contrasting features of Dresden and Bad Muskau make Saxony a uniquely “green” region of Germany. Both stand astride a river, one on the Elbe, the other on the Neisse.

Spectacular views are opened up from the charming heights overlooking the broad river valleys. After admiring the historical city centre, a visitor to Dresden should for this very reason take a stroll through the parks of the three Elbe Palaces and enjoy the fantastic city panorama.

A subsequent trip on an historical paddle-steamer is a journey back in time, gliding past the impressive villa districts of Loschwitz and Blasewitz en route to Pillnitz, the fascinating summer palace of Augustus the Strong.

On the journey to Bad Muskau, just as you are leaving Dresden, you pass through Hellerau, the first garden town in Germany. Arriving at last at the park in Bad Muskau (at 600 hectares one of the largest in Europe), you can wander in the footsteps of the extravagant Prince Pückler, who not only planned magnificent buildings, but also left personal reminiscences at many spots throughout the park.
