Upper Middel Rhine Valley

Upper Middle Rhine Valley
UNESCO-World Heritage since 2002

In 2002 UNESCO included in its World Heritage List the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, one of the most beautiful parts of Germany which has been cultivated since ancient times.

A sequence of castles and palaces extends from the old Roman town of Koblenz, passing the legendary Loreley to Bingen and Rüdesheim, along the steep bluffs where the famous Rhine wines are grown.

The Rhine, the German ”river of destiny”, has conveyed peoples from all parts of the known world as well as their goods, their traditions, and their artistic influences, as testified primarily by the sacred buildings all along the river.
